Before understanding how dermal wrinkle fillers work, it’s important to understand what they are. Dermal wrinkle fillers are liquid gels injected beneath the skin that restore fullness to the skin in order to smooth and correct facial wrinkles. They can be made from a number of different substances, including collagen, hyaluronic acid, or even human fat derived from your own body.
These substances are all surgery alternatives, and are used to plump skin and restore its youthful and healthy skin qualities. They work by being injected just beneath the skin, filling out areas where it’s begun to sag and wrinkle. Because most are natural or synthetic collagen-based, they function to replace your body’s natural collagen, the production of which slows over time. It can be injected into the forehead, lips, cheeks, and more. By being injected into the dermis, the body accepts the material and treats it as natural collagen. Some materials even stimulate natural collagen growth.
There are a number of different types of dermal wrinkle fillers. Some are derived from animal collagen, and others are non-animal-based synthetics. In our facility, we offer several options, including Restylane, JUVÉDERM, Perlane, and Radiesse. Each dermal filler is unique, and you should discuss their individual benefits with your injector.
For more information about the products we use here at The Laser Center of Marin, before and after photos, or other questions, we encourage you to explore the material on our site. If you would like to discuss your options with a consultant, please call us at 415-945-9314 any time.
